Tips to Reduce Plastic Waste at Home

I try to buy with my own bags whenever possible, and when each bag containing plastic grows old and worthless, I strive to replace it with a bag made of natural fibers. My stainless steel silverware and straws are always in my handbag, and I try to remember my reusable coffee cup. Plastic wrap is something I haven’t bought in years. Every year, I aim to expand my plastic-free repertoire. Here are some ways to reduce your plastic usage:

  1. Cotton buds — various cotton buds are now available on the market that is produced from bamboo and cotton and may be tossed in the compost bin. Instead of buds, we can also use a soft cloth.

2. Clothing — Experts estimate that microfibres account for 30% of the plastic contamination in our seas. Laundrying our garments distributes these microfibres. What is the solution? Begin purchasing natural fibers.

3. Keep Household Cleaners in Glass Bottles — Skip using single-use plastic bottles for handwash, dishwash, spray bottles, etc and shift to glass bottles.

4. Bring Your Own Bag During Grocery Runs — Which is better: paper or plastic? Why not use reusable tote bags to transport your groceries? They’re more durable and washable, and you can even make your own if you’re proficient with a sewing machine.

5. Pack Lunches with Reusable Containers — The majority of lunch boxes, as well as all of the sandwich bags, are constructed of plastic. Make a smart lunch using reusable containers and “tiffin” aluminum lunch boxes (like glass Pyrex or food-grade silicone Bags).

6. Choose Eco-Friendly Menstrual Products- Plastic applicators were used on 88 percent of tampons in 2015. This has a significant environmental effect, especially when plastic lining, wrappers, and sticker backing for all sorts of disposable menstruation products are included. From period underwear to reusable pads to medical-grade silicone cups and discs, there are now a plethora of alternatives to suit all users.

7. Grab a Pack of Microfiber Cloths — It’s no secret that paper towels aren’t the most environmentally friendly cleaning solution. Switch to our very effective microfiber cloths for cleaning, which may be re-used several times.
